Networks Pull Their Cameras From Trump, So the White House Launches a 24/7 ‘Trump TV’ Stream

The White House is launching its own around-the-clock video channel. “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” a 24/7 stream on the White House YouTube channel, is set to go live at 7 p.m. Eastern on Monday, Sept. 21, 2026, the same day the major TV networks announced they would stop providing pool coverage of the president.

The timing is not subtle. The networks walked away from the cameras. The White House is putting up its own.

How we got here

On Friday, Sept. 18, President Trump announced on Truth Social that CNN, MS NOW and Politico were banned from the White House, citing what he called their constant “reporting” of “FAKE NEWS!” According to the Washington Examiner, the outlets’ reporters were denied access to White House grounds the next day, and the Post reported that their press passes were confiscated, and Trump wrote that other “Fake News Media Outlets” would follow.

The legacy press closed ranks fast. ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC, the networks that share the White House television pool on a rotating basis, said they would stop covering presidential events as the pool, the Washington Post reported. The move followed the White House’s removal of CNN from the pool schedule, and a memo from pool chair Bryan Boughton of Fox News made clear nobody would fill the gap: “There will be no replacement pool put in place.” The networks’ joint statement read: “No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.”

According to the Post, the pool shutdown left the president apparently without designated TV cameras during his trip to New York for the United Nations General Assembly.

The lawsuit

On Monday, CNN, MS NOW and Politico, along with their White House reporters, sued in federal court in Washington, D.C. The complaint argues the ban violates the First Amendment and the Fifth Amendment’s due process guarantee, and it names Trump, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, communications director Steven Cheung and Secret Service Director Sean Curran as defendants. The case was assigned to U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly, who in 2018 ordered the White House to restore CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press pass.

The outlets’ lawyer, Theodore J. Boutrous Jr., called the ban “a direct assault on the First Amendment and a blatant violation of due process.”

Trump answered on Truth Social. “The White House is not instituting an assault on the Free Press, something which I cherish,” he wrote, calling it instead “an assault on the FAKE NEWS” that “must be stopped, NOW!” Vice President JD Vance put it more simply: “He’s not banning media outlets.”

That is the distinction the networks refuse to make. Nobody has stopped CNN from reporting. Nobody has shut down Politico’s website or MS NOW’s broadcasts. What the three outlets lost was physical access: their White House credentials, and with them CNN’s seat in the small, privileged pool that travels with the president. They are suing for a place in the room, not for the right to speak.

Enter Trump TV

The White House’s answer to the camera strike went up on YouTube Monday afternoon. The stream’s description reads: “Watch the Trump Administration’s biggest moments all in one place. Top videos, major remarks, and must-see highlights streaming 24/7 and updated in real time. Stay informed and stay up to date!”

The White House announced it on X with three words and a time: “Streaming 24/7. Live at 7PM.”

It is not a news network, and it doesn’t pretend to be. It is the administration’s own video of the president, available to anyone with a phone. That is exactly what makes it a problem for the networks. For decades the legacy press has acted as the toll booth between the president and the public. They decided which clip aired, which ten seconds of a speech made the evening news and what the chyron said underneath. Pulling the pool was supposed to remind the White House who controls the pictures.

Instead, the White House is reminding the networks that they don’t own the camera anymore. Between YouTube, X and independent outlets that never needed a pool seat to cover the president, the audience can find him without them.

What happens next

The outlets want a quick hearing and an order blocking the ban, and courts have sided with reporters in past access fights. Judge Kelly ruled for Acosta in 2018, and in 2025 a federal judge ordered the White House to restore the Associated Press’s access in the “Gulf of America” dispute.

But a court can order a seat in the pool. It can’t order Americans to keep getting their news about the president from the networks that just stopped filming him. Every day the pool stays dark is a day the White House gets to show viewers that the president’s message doesn’t need CNN, ABC or anyone else to reach them.

The networks pulled their cameras to make a point, and the White House answered by turning on its own.
